EPCOT's year-round festivals
More than any other Orlando park, EPCOT reinvents itself through the year with a near-continuous cycle of seasonal festivals. Each one layers extra food booths, merchandise, live entertainment and activities onto World Showcase, all included with normal park admission (you pay à la carte for food and drink). Which festival is running can genuinely change what kind of day EPCOT is, so it is worth knowing the calendar.
Festival of the Arts (winter)
Held in the winter (roughly January into February), the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts celebrates visual, culinary and performing arts. Expect artsy food booths with creative, colourful dishes, gallery displays and artist demonstrations, live Broadway-style concerts, and interactive art around the park. It is the quietest and most relaxed of the festivals — a favourite of those who like the food-crawl format without the biggest crowds.
Flower & Garden Festival (spring)
The spring festival (roughly March into early summer) bursts EPCOT into bloom with elaborate topiaries, gardens and floral displays throughout the park. Alongside the flowers are "Outdoor Kitchen" food booths with fresh, seasonal small plates, plus the Garden Rocks concert series. It is the prettiest festival and very family-friendly, with butterfly gardens and play areas.
Food & Wine Festival (autumn)
The biggest and best-known festival, running across the autumn. World Showcase fills with dozens of global tasting booths, the Eat to the Beat concert series and special events. It is the headline foodie event of the year — we cover it in depth in the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival guide.
Festival of the Holidays (winter)
The holiday-season festival (roughly mid-November into the end of the year) brings festive food booths representing holiday traditions around the world, storytellers in each World Showcase pavilion, and the moving Candlelight Processional — a retelling of the Christmas story with a celebrity narrator and a mass choir. It is a highlight of Christmas at Walt Disney World.
Which festival should you plan around?
If you can choose your dates, match the festival to your group. Foodie adults should target Food & Wine (autumn) for the biggest spread of tasting booths. Families get the most from Flower & Garden (spring), with its topiaries, butterfly garden and play areas. Anyone wanting the calmest visit should pick the Festival of the Arts (winter), the quietest of the four. And for holiday magic, the Festival of the Holidays and its Candlelight Processional are the draw. There is no wrong answer — but the festival genuinely changes the character of an EPCOT day.
How to do a festival day well
A few habits get the most from any EPCOT festival. Pick up the festival map/passport (or use the app) on arrival and plan a loose route around the booths you most want. Go hungry and share dishes to sample more, and set a budget, as à la carte tastings add up fast.
