What is Epic Universe?
Epic Universe is Universal Orlando's newest theme park — a third gated park a short distance from the original Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, which opened in May 2025. It is the largest US theme-park opening in a generation, and it is built differently from anything else in Orlando: rather than a single themed land or a movie-studio layout, it is a hub-and-spoke of five immersive worlds radiating from a central garden called Celestial Park.
What makes it stand out is the level of immersion and the calibre of intellectual property packed into one park — Nintendo, Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon and the classic Universal Monsters, each given a fully realised world. Expect cutting-edge ride technology, dense theming and, because it is so new and popular, high demand. Plan to arrive early, treat it as a full day (or two), and confirm current ride and entry systems before you go, as a brand-new park keeps refining how it operates.
Celestial Park
Overview: The central hub and the connective tissue of the park — a landscaped world of gardens, fountains and waterways that you pass through to reach the other lands, and a destination in its own right with its own rides, dining and bars.
Major attractions: Stardust Racers, a dual-launch racing coaster that is one of the park's headline thrills, plus the gentle Constellation Carousel. Dining: the strongest concentration of sit-down food in the park, including the upscale seafood-focused Atlantic, the American The Oak & Star Tavern, pan-Asian Blue Dragon and quick options like Pizza Moon, plus bars. Shopping: the park's main merchandise shops. Who will enjoy it most: everyone passes through, but coaster fans (Stardust Racers) and anyone wanting the best dining and a beautiful place to relax get the most from it.
Super Nintendo World
Overview: The interactive Mario land — a vibrant, walk-into-the-game world that extends into a Donkey Kong Country area. The optional Power-Up Band wristband links to the Universal app and turns the land into a real-life game of punching blocks, collecting coins and beating challenges.
Major attractions: Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge (an augmented-reality dark ride and a park headliner), Mine-Cart Madness (a Donkey Kong Country family coaster) and the gentle Yoshi's Adventure for little ones. Dining: the themed Toadstool Cafe. Shopping: the 1-UP Factory and Donkey Kong shops for Power-Up Bands and merchandise. Who will enjoy it most: families, kids, teens and Nintendo fans of all ages — it is the most universally loved land in the park.
Dark Universe
Overview: The classic Universal Monsters reimagined — a moody, atmospheric village called Darkmoor where Frankenstein's monster, Dracula, the Wolf Man and more come to life. It is the most adult-leaning and theatrically detailed land.
Major attractions: Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, a high-tech, intense dark ride that is a park headliner, and Curse of the Werewolf, a family spinning coaster. Dining: the gothic Das Stakehaus, De Lacey's Cottage and the atmospheric Burning Blade Tavern bar. Shopping: monster-themed shops. Who will enjoy it most: teens, adults and horror/monster fans who appreciate theming and a darker tone — younger children may find parts intense.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
Overview: A brand-new Wizarding World set in 1920s Paris and the wizarding Ministry of Magic, drawing on the Fantastic Beasts era as well as the classic Harry Potter stories. It is widely considered the most ambitious and detailed land in the park.
Major attractions: Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, a headliner dark-ride adventure that is one of the most talked-about rides in Orlando. Dining: the themed table-service Le Cirque Arcanus (with a live-show element) and the quick-service Café L'air De La Sirène. Shopping: wand shops and wizarding merchandise. Who will enjoy it most: Harry Potter fans above all, and anyone who loves deeply immersive theming — this is the land most visitors rank first.
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
Overview: A faithful recreation of the Viking village of Berk from the films — the most family-focused land, colourful and full of dragons. Major attractions: Hiccup's Wing Gliders (a family launch coaster and the land's headliner), Dragon Racer's Rally (a spinning thrill ride), Fyre Drill (an interactive water ride) and the Viking Training Camp play area for the youngest. Dining: the large Mead Hall quick-service. Shopping: Viking and dragon-themed stores. Who will enjoy it most: families with children — it has the best spread of rides for younger kids in the park, while still offering a fun coaster for everyone.
Attractions and rides
Epic Universe balances genuine thrills with strong family options across its five worlds.
- Thrill rides & coasters: Stardust Racers (Celestial Park), Monsters Unchained (Dark Universe), Mine-Cart Madness (Super Nintendo World) and Dragon Racer's Rally (Isle of Berk).
- Headliner dark rides: Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry — the two rides most people prioritise.
- Family rides: Hiccup's Wing Gliders, Curse of the Werewolf, Fyre Drill and Yoshi's Adventure.
- For younger children: Yoshi's Adventure, the Constellation Carousel and the Viking Training Camp play area.
Height requirements: the coasters and headliner rides carry height minimums, while the carousel, Yoshi's Adventure and the play areas are aimed at little ones — always check the exact current height for each ride before you queue, as these are confirmed per attraction. Must-do experiences: Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Stardust Racers, Monsters Unchained, and simply exploring Super Nintendo World with a Power-Up Band.
Epic Universe dining guide
Epic Universe has the strongest dining of any Universal Orlando park, much of it concentrated in Celestial Park.
- Table-service: Atlantic (upscale seafood), The Oak & Star Tavern (American), Blue Dragon (pan-Asian) in Celestial Park, and the themed Le Cirque Arcanus in the Ministry of Magic.
- Quick-service: Toadstool Cafe (Super Nintendo World), Mead Hall (Isle of Berk), Pizza Moon, Café L'air De La Sirène, plus Dark Universe's Das Stakehaus and De Lacey's Cottage.
- Snacks, desserts & bars: themed treats throughout the lands (the Wizarding World and Super Nintendo World are especially good for novelty snacks and drinks), plus atmospheric bars like Burning Blade Tavern (Dark Universe) and bars in Celestial Park.
Best for families: Toadstool Cafe and Mead Hall (fun, themed, quick). Best for adults: Atlantic and the Celestial Park sit-down spots and bars. Most popular experiences: the themed Wizarding World and Nintendo food, and a proper meal at Atlantic. Book table-service ahead where possible.
Where to stay: Epic Universe hotels
Epic Universe arrived with its own cluster of Universal hotels:
- Universal Helios Grand Hotel — the premium option, with a private gated entrance directly into Celestial Park. It is the most convenient and upscale base for an Epic Universe trip, with an in-park feel and early-access benefits. Best for travellers prioritising convenience and a higher-end stay.
- Universal Stella Nova Resort — a space-themed Prime Value resort right by Epic Universe, offering on-site benefits at a friendlier price. Best for families and value-minded visitors.
- Universal Terra Luna Resort — the sister Prime Value resort beside Stella Nova, similar in style and price. Best for the same value-focused travellers.
- Other Universal hotels — the resort's established hotels (the Premier hotels, Cabana Bay, the Endless Summer resorts and more) are a short distance away and remain great bases, especially if you are splitting time with the original parks. See best hotels near Universal.
Transportation: the new hotels are built around Epic Universe; Helios Grand offers the most direct access, and Universal provides transport across the wider resort. Confirm current early-access and transport perks when you book, as these are still bedding in.
Epic Universe tickets
Ticket options: Epic Universe is a separate gated park, so confirm your ticket actually includes it — many multi-day and park-to-park tickets do, but a base single-park ticket to the original parks will not. Single-day vs multi-day: a single day works if you arrive at opening and move efficiently; a multi-day ticket spreads the cost per day and pairs Epic Universe with Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Park-to-park: needed to move between Universal's parks in a day and to use the Hogwarts Express between the two original parks (it does not run to Epic Universe). Express Pass: a paid skip-the-line option may be available, and on-site hotels can include perks — but for a brand-new, high-demand park the rules are still evolving, so verify current Express and virtual-queue arrangements in the Universal app. Maximising value: buy only the park-days you will use as one multi-day ticket, travel off-peak, and rope-drop rather than relying solely on paid line-skipping. See the Universal tickets guide for the full picture. (We do not list prices here, as they change.)

Epic Universe vs the other Orlando parks
Epic Universe vs Universal Studios Florida: Universal Studios Florida is movie- and screen-focused with Diagon Alley as its centrepiece; Epic Universe is newer, more immersive and more ride-driven, with a wider mix of worlds. First-timers usually find Epic Universe the more "wow" experience, but the Studios' Diagon Alley remains essential for Potter fans.
Epic Universe vs Islands of Adventure: closest comparison — both are thrill-rich and immersive. Islands of Adventure has VelociCoaster and Hagrid's and is a coaster-lover's favourite; Epic Universe is newer with more lands and the best theming. Serious ride fans will want both.
Epic Universe vs Walt Disney World: different scale entirely — Walt Disney World is four parks built around breadth, family magic and longer stays; Epic Universe is one cutting-edge park you can do in a day or two. Disney suits multi-day family trips; Epic Universe suits those wanting the newest, most immersive single park. See the Disney vs Universal comparison for the full head-to-head.
Best park for different travellers: families with young kids tilt toward Disney and Super Nintendo World / Isle of Berk; teens and thrill-seekers tilt toward Epic Universe and Islands of Adventure; Potter fans want Epic Universe's Ministry of Magic plus the original two Wizarding Worlds.
